The Cisco Easy VPN Remote enables Cisco IOS routers or software clients to act as remote VPN clients. This ensures that those connections have up-to-date policies in place before the connection is established. Remote office devices use the Cisco Easy VPN Remote feature or the Cisco VPN Client application to connect to the server, which then pushes defined security policies to the remote VPN device. It enables Cisco IOS routers and Cisco ASA Firewalls to act as VPN head-end devices in site-to-site or remote-access VPNs. Imagine that a VPN remote device is attached to a VPN server, and the connection is broken for some reason.The Cisco Easy VPN Server makes it possible for mobile and remote workers using VPN Client software on their PCs to create secure IPsec tunnels to access their headquarters' intranet where critical data and applications exist. If the VPN remote device is already Internet connected, it may not be necessary to have Internet traffic filled through the tunnel. Without Split Tunneling enabled, the remote will send all traffic-intranet and Internet-across the tunnel. Split Tunneling control gives the VPN remote the ability to maintain intranet and Internet access at the same time. If the idle devices fail to respond, the VPN server assumes the connection has been broken and responds by recovering the resources dedicated to maintaining that particular connection.
